Thank you for sending us your personal details.

Before we can help you design your personal Academic IELTS study plan you need to do the following:

Take a free IELTS listening and reading test

Complete a short online questionaire

THE TESTS

In the real exam you will have to take four seperate tests - Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. But to give you an estimated overall score now, we only need you to take the Listening and Reading test.

Having prepared people for the academic IELTS exam for about 10 years and having studied the IELTS results since 2011, we have found that by just taking these two exams, it is possible to calculate your likely overall score in the full exam.

Once you are able to give us your results on the two tests, we will send you your own free Personal Performance Plan. This will include:

Your estimated overall score and an explanation of how we calculated the figure.

An estimate of your likely score for Writing and Speaking based on your scores in the Listening and Reading tests. (You will NOT have to do a Writing and Speaking test).

An assessment of what you need to do to achieve your IELTS goal(s) and how long we think it might take you to achieve your target scores.

Your personal plan - the practical steps you need to take to achieve your goal.

THE TESTS

Use these links to take the free practice Listening and Reading tests on the British Council IELTS website:

Listening: https://takeielts.britishcouncil.org/prepare-your-test/free-ielts-practice-tests/listening-practice-test-1

Reading: https://takeielts.britishcouncil.org/prepare-test/practice-tests/reading-practice-test-1-academic

You must read and follow the instructions for each test carefully.

You should do the listening test only once.

Spend no more than 60 minutes on the reading test.

If you do the listening test more than once and only give us your best score, we will not be able to give you a realistic assessment of your likely overall score. The same is true if you spend more than 60 minutes on the reading test – even if you have not completed all 40 questions stop work on the Reading test after 60 minutes.

When you have completed each test, check your answers, add up the total number of correct responses for each test then use the table below to work out your band score. E.g. if you score 26 correct answers for Listening then your band score for this skill is 6.5. However, if you get 26 for Reading your band score for this skill is 6.0. Write down your band scores because you will need them to complete your questionnaire.

Based on the Listening and Reading scores you have given us and our estimates for your Writing and Speaking scores, we believe that if you were to take the academic IELTS exam today, your overall score would be {element|id:86|Estimate Overall} or lower.

Your current estimated IELTS score suggests that your English level is intermediate or lower. Look at the table below:

At the moment, our view is that your general English level is not high enough to begin preparing for the IELTS exam. Our view is that, you need to raise your general English level to Upper Intermediate, so that you can achieve a minimum overall score of 5.5 in the Academic IELTS exam.

We recommend that you find a good local language school, if you are not already studying at one, and take a general English course until you have reached upper intermediate standard. At this level you would have an equivalent IELTS score of 5.5 or 6.0.

Once you are certain that you have reached this level, please come back to our site and complete the questionnaire again. We will then provide you with a free personal assessment. If your overall score is 5.5 or above, we will send you your own FREE assessment and access to your own Personal Performance Plan to help you prepare for the IELTS exam. In addition, we will give you an estimate of the time it will take you to reach your goal.

Good luck with your English studies.

You have also told us that you need to score at least 7.0 in all 4 skills. Look at the estimated scores to see how far you are away from scoring 7.0 in each skill. But before going ahead to book, you should take a look at your PPP. If any of your individual skill scores are less than 7.0, then you should definitely look at your own personal plan.
