Best Practices, Maximum elements, Performance

I did a search on these items and didn’t get any results I was looking for.

Is there any documentation on some best practices for how many elements should/could be on a form?

As I add more elements to my form it seems to get slower and slower.

I am redoing a lengthily form, and since I am doing groups in groups for formatting purposes, I was wondering if there are any Best Practices, Maximum elements, or Performance boosters that anyone can suggest (besides getting off of a shared service) 🙂
