I have read about the “disable uniform output” which has helped make one or the other function properly. With the disable checked the dropdown works, but not the checkboxes and with the disable unchecked the check boxes work but not the drop down.
I checked for some css that might be making the checkboxes disappear but didn’t see anything.

Figured it out. it was a -webkit-appearance issue in the theme css.
