Fatal error: Class 'SMTP' not found

When submitting a new form, I receive the following error at the top of the form:

There was a problem
Fatal error: Class 'SMTP' not found in /home/airedale/public_html/research/quform/lib/class.phpmailer.php on line 1194

I have tested that SMTP works by using the mail-check feature and it works fine and I get the email(s) through fine.

Server is a basic cPanel account running PHP version 5.4.26

Any ideas?
