Submitted form not emailed using SMTP

I apologize if this topic has discussed in prior threads but I’ve been searching for hours and not coming up with a fix.

I’ve entered and double checked the smtp data;
host = smtp.gmail.com
port – 465
and entered a working email address and password

Also installed Easy WP SMTP pluggin using the same email address, host etc..
Easy WP  SMTP debugging Results: The following From address failed: chc.website@xxxxxxxx.com : Called Mail() without being connected
