unique IDs under Version 2.0.1

I need to make it so my form elements have unique IDs (in order to use a postcode lookup service) under Version 2.0.1.
For some reason the unique ID fields are read-only and I cannot change them.

Can you let me know how I can do this and if I do change it, will the element’s id be exactly the same and not change on each refresh as it does now?
