The Name element lets the user enter their name using separate fields for its parts. By default, the First and Last parts are enabled. You can also enable Prefix, Middle, and Suffix.

Basic

Label

Sets the label of the element.

Description

Sets description text to display below or above the element.

Parts

Configure each part of the name using the Prefix, First, Middle, Last, and Suffix tabs.

The Prefix part is a select menu for titles such as Mr or Dr. The other parts are text fields.

Enabled

Enable or disable each part. Only enabled parts are displayed in the form.

Required

Sets an individual part to be required. For example, to require both a first and last name, enable Required on both the First and Last tabs.

Placeholder

Sets text displayed inside a name part before the user enters a value. Available for First, Middle, Last, and Suffix.

Sub label

Sets a small label below or above each name part.

Default value

Sets the initial value for First, Middle, Last, or Suffix. You can insert a variable by clicking the code icon beside the field.

Custom CSS class

Add custom CSS classes to an individual name part. Use the Field tab for the input or select menu, and the Element tab for its wrapper. Separate multiple classes with a space.

Autocomplete

Sets the HTML autocomplete attribute for First, Middle, or Last to help browsers fill in saved name information. Choose a suggested value using the selector beside the setting, or enter a value manually.

Prefix options

On the Prefix tab, configure the choices available in the select menu. Click Add option to add a choice.

Enable Customize values if the submitted value should differ from the displayed option label.

“Please select” option

Adds an option at the top of the Prefix menu that lets the user choose no value. Change its text on the Translations tab.

Label icon

Choose an icon to display in the element label.

Field size

Sets the padding and font size of the name fields. Choose Inherit to use the setting from the parent group, page, or form.

Field width

Sets the width of the element. Choose a preset size, Custom, or Inherit to use the setting from the parent group, page, or form.

If Field width is set to Custom, enter a custom width using any valid CSS width.

Responsive columns

Choose the screen width at which the name parts should stack vertically instead of appearing side by side. Choose Inherit to use the setting from the parent group, page, or form.

If Responsive columns is set to Custom, enter a screen width using a CSS unit, such as 600px.

Custom CSS class

Add custom CSS classes to the Name element. Use the Field tab for the individual inputs and select menu, and the Element tab for the overall element wrapper. Separate multiple classes with a space.

CSS styles

Add custom CSS styles to parts of the element by clicking Add a style, choosing the selector, and entering the CSS into the box.

Labels

Sub label

Sets a small label below or above the whole Name element. Labels for individual name parts are configured on the Basic tab.

Admin label

Sets a different label for the element when viewing entries and within notification emails.

Tooltip text

Sets the text displayed in a small popup when the user interacts with the tooltip icon.

Tooltip trigger

The Name element uses Icon as its tooltip trigger.

Tooltip event

Choose Hover, Click, or Inherit to use the setting from the parent group, page, or form.

Label position

Choose Above, Left, or Inherit to use the setting from the parent group, page, or form. If the inherited position is Inside, the Name element displays its label above the fields.

Label width

If Label position is set to Left, enter a custom label width using any valid CSS width.

Logic

Enable conditional logic

Enable or disable conditional logic for the element.

Logic rules

Choose whether to show or hide the element when all or any of the rules match. Click Add logic rule, then choose the element, operator, and value for each rule.

Data

Dynamic default value

Allows the name to be populated from a URL parameter, block value, shortcode attribute, or filter hook. See the Dynamic default value guide for more information.

Parameter name

Sets the parameter name used as the source of the dynamic default value.

Show in email

If enabled, the submitted name is shown in the default notification email.

Save to database

If enabled, the submitted name is saved to the database and shown when viewing an entry.

Advanced

Unique ID

The unique element identifier is displayed here. You may need this for advanced usage.

Visibility

Sets the element to be visible to Everyone, Logged in users only, or Logged out users only. Choose Admin only to make it available only when viewing or editing entries.

Validators

Add validators to check the submitted name and display an error message if it is invalid. To require individual name parts, use their Required settings on the Basic tab.

Translations

Translate the text of relevant settings and validation messages here. The available settings depend on how the element is configured.
