Updating your translation after a plugin upgrade

With every update of the Quform plugin, there is a strong chance there will have been changes made to some of the translated strings. The plugin will keep your .mo and .po files during plugin upgrades, so we need to update these to match the updated iphorm-form-builder.pot file.

Poedit allows us to update an existing translation with new translation strings, here’s how to do it.

Step 1

Open your existing .po file, from iphorm-form-builder/languages/iphorm-[LOCALE_CODE].po.

Step 2

Go to Catalog → Update from POT file, browse to the file iphorm-form-builder/languages/iphorm-form-builder.pot. Poedit will now compare the updated .pot file with the translations in your open catalog and will update them with new strings and also remove obsolete strings.

Step 3

There may now be some translations needed, so check through the catalog and translate the new strings if needed.

Step 4

Save the file, Poedit should create another file ending in .mo in the same place as your .po file. So you should have two files that should be in the iphorm-form-builder/languages/ folder:

  • iphorm-[LOCALE_CODE].po
  • iphorm-[LOCALE_CODE].mo

The translation is now updated to match the new plugin version, congratulations!
